I WAS THIRSTY – And you gave me drink – Thirst and character 2
Thirst and character
I was thirsty
And you gave me drink
One with knowledge
Gives to another
What a delight to capture these images. As with “Thirst and Character 1” I set up a bowl of sugared water on my friend Barrie’s back veranda in the flight path of the Tui. I set the camera with a 200mm lens + 1.4 converter and watched the action. There were so many photos to choose from, but the intelligence and sharpness of these birds gave me the inspiration to consider the proverb in relationship to feeding others.
Smart, swift, alert, the Tui is primed for action. We eyed each other and this moment became a treasure. They, like me, were probably wondering “What will the next move be”? The inspiration was based on knowing when you’re thirsty and hungry, you will ask this question. “Where will I find food to satisfy my hunger”? With it being winter and a short food
This is winter and a short food supply enhanced the hunger. The lack of nectar from flowers in bloom inspires a more intense search. The discovery of food and drink can only be when you know where it is supplied. Within the knowledge of feeding and drinking, you need to have the wisdom to know what to choose rightly so you don’t touch or eat what’s poisonous, hence intelligence.
They did not know how to mix the delicacy like we did. We have instructions and know what to offer them to enjoy the pleasure freely. The Tui discovers what is in place there and the leader then leads the rest to pleasure.
An allegory within the story – Tui flight canvas print
These thoughts came from many readings in The Constitution from Heaven that talks about being diligent in persistence, the glory of being, food for the stomach and food for the spirit.
These thoughts came from many readings in “The Constitution from Heaven – The Bible”. The Bible talks about being diligent in persistence, the glory of being, food for the stomach and food for the spirit.
Watching this family of Tui (New Zealand native bird) I found their energy, purposefulness and the knowledge to know where good food is, impressive. What’s more, it was free. The only work they had to do was listen to the call and fly to the offering and drink freely.
God is like that. To receive from Him knowingly you have to discover where the offering is. To partake you listen, believe it’s free to receive and let your thirst take you to the bowl of living water offered.
The principles of leadership
The story has inspirations for a business, branding design, community idea or a friends advice to find a husband or wife. The inspiration behind the ideas to motivate a person’s thoughts.
The leader inspires others to come and drink or points the way to the drink. The receiver takes inspiration from their dream to partake in their own discovery.
The principle is in all creation, be it feeding on good which gives life, or evil which brings death. When an enthusiast discovers something that they find pleasure in they will lead willing partakers to indulge whether it is politics in New York, business in Tokyo, sport in London, history in Milan or oil drilling in Dubai.
Note: Not all leaders lead to life. In this case, one Tui was a good leader!
The Maori art symbolism:
The Mangopare Shark in the Maori world symbolizes natural abundance, strength, agility, and determination.
This predators functions (symbolized in the Koru pattern as a backbone) were respected. Maori warriors sought to emulate them on the battlefield to meet their goals.
The wave motion in the design is symbolic of the backbone movement generating forward motion toward the desired prey. Finding true knowledge and wisely applying it leads to a desire fulfilled.
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,” Matthew 25:35 (NIV)
