THE STORY 

Rainbows End began with a friend’s photo that stirred my imagination. It made me want to paint the joy and playfulness of dolphins — and the deep delight they spark in children. Dolphins rainbow Zorb ball

I first started the painting in 1989, experimenting with a coarse, gesso-primed canvas. In 2016, I added more symbolism, painting the children inside the Zorb ball, capturing that feeling of carefree, childlike wonder.

“Joy Bubbles” were added, floating from the Zorb into the bright distance, showing how simple play can fill the atmosphere with happiness.

Rainbows, oceans, sunlight, and playful creatures remind us of the beauty we often forget as adults. If we don’t intentionally record moments of gratitude, the pressures of life can push them aside.

Creating and holding onto good memories is more than comforting — it’s a powerful way to protect our mental health, keeping hope alive.

Pleasure in the imagination, telling stories, and painting

A child’s imagination finds joy in both the fantasy of the end of the rainbow and the sight of a dolphin playing in the wild.

Stress can easily rob a healthy and playful imagination of its untouchable delight. Simple pleasures are hard to see in an anxiety-ridden mind.

I have swum, played, windsurfed, and surfed with dolphins and orcas. I owe a great deal of gratitude to my maker for these special experiences.

Remember to take time out, stop worrying, and learn to play again. It’s liberating when you find good things to thank God for rather than complain about all the junk we are daily fed through the media and misguided friends.
