The * Illustration Technique 

Illustrating and controlling pencil leads from light to dark tones, while capturing the essence of the subject’s skin tones and torso shape, is a significant challenge.

To achieve a more sensitive pencil stroke, I combined soft HB, 4B, and 6B pencils and cross-hatched the drawing on 640gsm hot-pressed Fabriano Artistico watercolor paper.

The paper is sized for both bulk and surface absorption, maintaining its characteristics even if scratched. It has a bright white color that was achieved without the use of optical brighteners. The paper has two uncut edges and is watermarked with ‘Fabriano Artistico’ on two corners.

This high-quality paper is suitable for both professional artists and demanding amateurs and is ideal for watercolor, gouache, acrylic, ink, charcoal, graphite, and drawing.

* Chiaroscuro (Italian for light-dark) in the art uses strong contrasts between light and dark, usually bold contrasts affecting a whole composition.
