THE STORY

I created this illustration from a 2014 Weekend Herald article featuring Li-Wei Qin, the Chinese-Australian cellist whose passion for the colour of sound deeply moved me.
His pose drew me in, and as a lover of orchestral music, I focused on the source of the cello’s voice — the fingers, the bow, and the soundbox breathing life into every note.

I imagine this artwork hanging in New York, London, or even a quiet country bach, where someone listens to their favourite symphony and feels its gentle beauty.

As I drew, the music lifted me too — carrying me beyond the cares of the world into a moment of pure joy.

Music for all

Music is powerful — essential to our well-being.
