EMBERS OF THE DAY 1 – Remind me of daylights rest
POEM
Daylights rest
Embers of the day
They visit us consistently
To remind of daylights rest
I’ve watched the birds fly home
To the contentment of their nest
Gentle whisper
Energy all but spent
Twilight colors kiss my cheeks
The warm flood of peace
Massages its comfort
Within my grateful heart
A gentle whisper speaks
Her loyalty
Time to rest from my labour
The days toil is complete
It’s time to kiss my beloved
And lay me gently down
At her loyalty
And beautifully sculptured feet
Fine Wine
A glass of fine wine
A word so soft
Music to entertain and calm
Oh so good to see embers rich
Praise at the end of a day
Written in a psalm
Lovers hand
And so it is with love and care
When all else has finished
Look toward your lover’s hand
Before the dying embers
Are well and truly diminished
THE STORY
This photo was a planned expedition once I realized the low outgoing tide and sunset coincided with wet reflective sand. I walked around the estuary for about 2 hours observing color positions and the wildlife and found it was one of those very pleasurable evenings. Once back at the computer the story ventured into another allegory of comparison. Everything in creation has a rest cycle in its DNA as part of a necessity for fully functional living. Learning to treasure this insight and use it wisely is as important as waking up with a heart full of praise and thanks at sunrise.
Meandering from a pleasant sunset, watching White Faced Heron returning home to roost, a little preening of the feathers and relax into some deep satisfied sleep brought a beautiful image to mind. One of a father’s pleasure at considering going home to a lovable wife after a hard days toil has ended. Foreign to some but to many the pleasure of soft music, pleasant company, a relaxing wine and conversation in peaceful coexistence with the like-minded partner. The psalm of one of life’s better choices to enjoy.
This should be the goal and want in every household on the planet, whether in New York, London, Paris, the Canterbury Plains in New Zealand or the desert cattle stations west of Sydney in Australia. It is a common human desire for peace and purpose in all generations of the human spirit and for me, the wonder of wonders is that Jesus has made this hope of peace on earth a very achievable reality.
