THE STORY

A journey into the mountains from the desert road in the North Island, New Zealand led to this encounter with some daisies. I walked alone in the early morning sunshine scanning all that appealed to my excited creative mind. The sounds crunching underfoot were mountain grasses greeting the crisp morning air, and I imagined a carpet manufacturer wondering how to capture the design for installments in City hotel lobbies. impressionism painting mountain daisies

My creative mind is wired to wonder at many things.

Traveling regularly with a camera gives me a creative tool for opportunities to capture project reference images.

On the day of the photos, I walked in unknown territory and in each step discovered a myriad of possibilities until, “Oh my goodness, a beautiful cluster of petals”, almost sparkling in the harshness of a mountain desert greeted my eyes. Without hesitation, the camera came off my shoulders and I engaged in many-body contortions looking for the arty shot to add to my floral photo library. Was it cold? Yes. Was it worth it? Yes. Now you have part one of the story of this painting. Part 2 is at this link.

Creative choices

From a series of photos, I chose 2 images. View “Mountain Daisies 2”  and create a series.

Putting on my flamboyant artist hat I played in the field of expression and impressionist renderings while listening to blaring music. Painting multimedia on heavy gesso-primed cardboard is an ecstatic moment. in the background, a cup of coffee and enthusiasm to burn I launched into the vision. From the rolled household paint, acrylic and ink splashes, and broad-brushed strokes came a very delightful image. As a “Hyper Photo Realist” (My term for my favored paint discipline) I surprised myself with my expressive freedom. I enjoyed the experience and will be coming back to this style in later works.
