THE STORY

A colour photograph inspired this pencil drawing. Though the image itself has faded from memory, its light, contrast, and the bird’s intense alertness remained and formed the story.

Capturing the sense of flight through mid-tone pencil work challenged the surface, leaving the paper well-worn.

These studies of flight continue to stir my imagination, hinting at future surreal works that explore deeper truths in creation. The kittiwake’s focus and purpose reflect our own search for nourishment—hope, meaning, and the bread that sustains the soul.

A place of belonging

This pencil drawing could belong anywhere — from a city gallery to a quiet farmhouse. Wherever it rests, I’m grateful for the one it speaks to.

Many struggle to believe in a personal Creator. I once did, mistaking God for a myth behind the world’s brokenness. I was wrong.

Every living being is formed with a purpose. Yet we humans act with pride-filled ignorance, harming what we don’t understand and the world we were entrusted to care for. I am no exception. This work is a quiet reminder that mercy, humility, and wisdom are essential for creation and existence to enjoy the fullness of life.
