UNDER THE FIRMAMENT 2 – A rainbow’s glory and a prayer of hunger
Pacific Ocean rainbow clouds firmament
POEM
Rainbow
Under the firmament
Rainbows end
A fantasy of color
Sensitive caresses
Tickle the beauty of an ocean
The gem captured like no other
Besides a continental shelf
The Canon 5D
All by myself
This wonder
The planet
Beyond comprehension
A reflection
Someone’s good desire
No tempest here today
Very much for all
A marvel in itself
The gift is huge
A magnificent commonwealth
This mystery
Once hidden from me
In a glory-box of desire
Teach me master planet maker
Ambitions in my heart
A flight across the Pacific
This wonderful piece of art
To steward the knowledge of truth
Nestled in firmament glory
Be-dazzling in its youth
THE STORY
Flying to Fiji just East of Australia I was exploring some of the vacant window seats in business class looking for a nice angle to get a shot of the Altocumulus clouds above the Pacific Ocean. To my surprise, I rotated the polarizing filter and this phenomenon happened. The light refracted through the multiple window panes of the aircraft in an unexpected way and to coin a delightful parochialism, “I near wet my pants with excitement”. The rainbow colors are rich and ethereal. I shot to my heart’s content with a series of images I later used in all sorts of art and design projects.
The Pacific Ocean, rainbow, clouds, firmament
To me, it is an amazing thing to fly in an aircraft. So much weight, technology, the law of aerodynamics, the energy converted to thrust and overcoming the laws of gravity and I get to wonder how this planet came to be. Because we discovered flight I was privileged to see this wonder under the firmament of heaven. Or is it in the firmament of heaven? Whatever we call it I am awestruck yet again.
2 sides of the fence
Knowledge stripped down to two streams of thought, either God the invisible spirit beyond our natural comprehension or a big bang with no creative intelligence associated. Both have their reasoned arguments, for and against, while in this instance I just look with heartfelt visible awe. It could have started with an explosion! With or without Him it’s still a beautiful sight.
I have played on both sides of the fence and justified whichever side I sat on until I became, in my opinion, “A, brave fool”.
I dared to think if there was such a person who was greater than all the joint philosophies and opinions of mankind why was He kept silent? Or has He? If he made me why did he not talk to me and help me to find an answer to all the confusion? He did, and now I am a happy man.
