CONSIDER THE LILLIE’S 1 – From the hand of a master craftsman. Red Cala Lily

THE STORY

I have the inquisitive mind of an artist looking for ideas. This led to painting a series of impressionist works from Lillie’s.

I was drawn to the elegant lines of the calla lilies, photographed earlier in my photography career. The idea of painting them quickly and efficiently, using mixed media, appealed to my sense of expressionist adventure.

Calla lilies inspire me deeply—the waxy freshness of the petals, the richness of colour, and the quiet science within their botany. From their sculptural form to the layered hues of their leaves, they reveal a refined design. Their shape compelled me to turn passion into a project.

Hence the subtitle, “From the hand of a master craftsman”. He deserves praise for the glory seen everywhere in creation, and I now remember the pleasure I had in creating the Lily series.

These creations challenged my detailed perfectionism.

Back story

After nearly 20 years of artistic depression and loss of vision, many of my early works disappeared, including the original Calla Lily series. Following a deeply cathartic experience in 2014 (see story), I rediscovered these works and brought them back to life—resurrected from what felt like creative death.
