LILY FROM THE VALLEY 4 – Consider the Lillies from a master craftsman. Red Cala Lily oil painting
THE STORY

An inquisitive search for ideas led me to paint the Calla Lily series.

Photographed in early 1995, the elegant lines and waxy, vibrant petals of the Red Cala Lilly invited a photo-realist painting. The work appealed to my natural perfectionism, drawing me into colour, form, and the intricate science of botanical design. Quite simply — wow.

The subtitle, “From the hand of a master craftsman,” reflects my belief that such beauty points beyond itself, to God’s glorious evidence throughout creation.

While I value digital photo art and its place on our walls, painting carries something deeper — a presence, a richness, a sentiment that words struggle to define.

After a cathartic turning point in 2014, I recovered the original large-format transparency and began the reproduction process. Revisiting the colours reminded me of the deep pleasure and wonder found in creating the Lily series.

Why Consider the Lillies?

Why consider the lilies?

They neither toil nor worry about how they grow, nor do they question their beauty. They simply flourish — displaying their glory as designed by a master craftsman. Their quiet confidence invites us to pause, reflect, and admire.

This work celebrates that effortless beauty and belongs among places that value thoughtful art. Art appreciation in itself is worth the exhibition.

Written as a visual allegory, the painting offers a gentle meditation on peace and well-being. As the lily is valued for what it is, so are you.

God has given us a world rich with beauty. My encouragement is simple: don’t become so busy building your dreams that you forget to notice what He has already planted before your eyes.

This painting belongs in the home of Claire Fisher, New Zealand.
