THE STORY
The Seagull Flight oil painting was inspired by observing a seagull bathing in this pool of freshwater on the Mahurangi River in Warkworth, New Zealand. I am blessed to live in an environment where such wildlife lives. My creative inspiration is everywhere and every vision of my eye has a story to tell.
From my studio window, I watch the flooded river bulge under the bridge and meet the incoming tide. The autumn season, heralded by Oak tree’s falling leaves. The spring was heralded by Kowhai trees flowering and the busy roadway carrying unceasing traffic. Like a line of ants busily heading somewhere with purpose, the vehicles mix with the sounds of nature. God has given me the privilege to live in this domain and watch the antics of creation.
As I am a prayerful observer in most things, I talk to God* asking the question, why? To me, it makes sense to ask the manufacturer (God) about His products. Everything we see with our eyes has a purpose. I wanted to know why this seagull regularly needed to wash.
Here is his story of Seagull Flight oil painting.
Functionality
A bird’s feathers have a function. If feathers are not washed practical functions turn to malfunctions. Life slowly becomes dysfunctional. The unwanted negative cycle of life in everything created on the earth is clear in dirt, dust, mites, fleas, cockroaches, disease, decay, etc. It is what we call, a part of the curse. To be optimally functional the decaying cycle needs regular cleaning maintenance, for all working parts. This maintains maximum efficiency. If you want are you to be fully functional for any purposes you have there is no room for laziness and birdie has his story to tell.
The family seagulls are probably the most common seabird on the planet. They tell the same story in New York, Sydney, Auckland, Paris, London, Odessa, wherever there is plenty of water and leftover food.
This principle is seen in everything as revealed in the Seagull Flight oil painting. Look at cultivated orchards, vehicle engines, ball bearings, our bodies’ food intake, cattle in the paddocks, the way we think, discarded rubbish in space, politics, religion. All we imagine and see is influenced by similar principles. Unwanted passengers, dream stealers, haters of good, making gulls flightless efficient is parabolic of our dilemmas.
Like me, birds would appreciate the imperfect to become perfect … No more scratches, no more disease, no more washing, and no more enemies. Peaceful living.
An observation
Seagull Flight oil painting reveals a gull that needs to wash because it feels uncomfortable with dust and nits in its feathers. It has inbuilt knowledge that washing is necessary for the proper functioning of its engineered parts and proper functions. A dirty body, an unclean conscience, a broken bone, a disease, a malfunctioning piece of machinery all show a need for maintenance and for want of a better word, healing. The goal … an inbuilt wish for restoration to a desired functional purpose to fulfill the desired destiny. Birdie needed to clean up so he could fly efficiently in search of his next feed. A freer flight with more pleasure and better functionality of purpose.
Some would call this heaven on earth.
Faith exercised from hunger for what is true washes away the darkness in a soul
This observation reflected a deep want in all creation for peace … the absence of conflict, the absence of war, rest from hard labor, the absence of disease, rest from vermin, and the knowledge of answers to our perpetuating conflicts that rob us of freedom. The code is written in all creation. It waits for the revealing of God’s sons. We all know something is deeply dysfunctional in mankind and we are all hungry for peace and rest.
“Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven”. From this exhortation by a Jewish God-man named Jesus, I find an interesting observation. It was His answer to a question His appendices asked.
“On earth, as it is in heaven” has inspired me to hunger for more revelation. Jesus’ apprentices had their curiosity ignited while observing Him exercising dominion over disease and sickness. Washing people from their ailments and frustrating functionality lead to a fuller life purpose. Thus, washing inspired them.
I want to know why we aren’t seeing more of this today, as He has promised.
Jesus
This man, Jesus, had demonstrated a relationship with an unseen presence in another dimension, another Kingdom that was greater than the disease and suffering on earth. Jesus talked and communicated all the time with the subjects of this supernatural world as a normal part of daily life and He acted out what He saw and heard, the instructions to heal the sick and deliver people from evil spirits. He told them how to reach this spiritual, supernatural world by talking about and acknowledging its existence. We call it prayer and what’s amazing about this is that it has not been unavailable for us to contact. We never believed in its reality so we mocked what we couldn’t see and created our own philosophies to fill the gap.
Is there a reason for boredom
I have no reason for boredom. All life needs maintenance. You could be in Italy, America, New Zealand, Russia, or Syria, and the maintenance is the same. We all need to strip away the political, religious, and philosophical pride-filled walls and find reconciliation first. We all have a common spiritual Godless vacuum that needs feeding on the source of life.
Coming soon to a planet like ours, the new earth and a new heaven. No more death, crying, or pain, and birdie won’t need a bath anymore. He may swim happily with the abandon of a free spirit, just as his heart desires.
