Gently Surreal Poem Aspirations seagulls
The breeze
A zephyr through the night
Kissed the aspirations of dawn

Birds wing their way in light

Thoughts of wonder
Have lighted in my soul
The Man of Peace has sown His seed
To fill my empty bowl

A daydream

Gently
Inspired
Worries all gone
Pleasures in my soul

THE STORY

This poem grew out of watching the news — all the stress, blame, fear, and pain around financial loss. It made me wonder, “Why does money trouble us so deeply?” and “What does the love of money have to do with this image?”

As I reflected, I noticed how easily we slip into daily worries and forget the daily simple, natural joys.

When money becomes our source of security, it blinds us to life’s quiet beauty — even the magic found in a small daydream.

So I decided to bring a little light-hearted surrealism into the mix, using familiar bird imagery, a terracotta bowl, and a mirror photographed under studio lights. The result is something simple, a touch surreal, with another story waiting to be told.

Choices

If you’re anything like me, you need constant reminders to let go of worry and step back into the fields of imagination — free from guilt over past mistakes.

Greed, pride, and the hunger for status can seem important one day and worthless the next. Some people will even harm others just to get ahead.

We cling to money because we fear not having enough. It makes sense — and yet it doesn’t.

But when you choose to focus on what’s good, you become freer, wiser, and more open to life’s simple wonders.

Your “bowl of inspiration” keeps filling with inspired ideas when you open your heart to see what He shows you. Life becomes brighter, and the future feels rich with possibility.

No matter where you are — London, Paris, New York, Amsterdam, Sydney, or even on a camel in the desert with a smartphone — the message in this poem can bring peace. Ask Jesus, and He’ll reveal what I saw.

I’m thinking of taking this idea further, exploring deeper surrealism in a full oil painting — floating dollar notes symbolizing wasted frustration.
