THE STORY
What a delight to capture these images. As with “Thirst and Character 2” we set up a bowl of sugared water on my friend Barrie’s back verandah in the flight path of the Tui. I set the camera with a 200mm lens and a 1.4 converter. So many photos to choose from. The intelligence and communication of these birds, discovering the delicacy gave me the inspiration to consider the proverb in relationship to feeding others. It is based on knowing when you’re thirsty and hungry you find food to satisfy your needs. Your hunger drives you to search and satisfy a desire. Tui proverb wildlife heritage photo art
Smart, swift, alert, the Tui is primed for action. There was a magic moment as we eyed each other. They, like me, were probably wondering “What will the next move be?”
Within the knowledge of feeding and drinking, we need the wisdom to know what choice is right. We don’t want poison, hence intelligence. Tui does not know how to mix the delicacy as we do. I knew what to offer and their pleasure was free. They had to discover it. One of the family tasted the pleasure and led the rest to the feast.
Being winter, with a shortage of nectar, only intensified their hunger for a new energy source.
The intelligent and sharp eye in this image was too much to resist for the proverb.
The Inspiration
Watching this family of Tui (New Zealand native bird) I found their energy, purposefulness and the knowledge to know where good food is, impressive. What’s more, it was free. The only work they had to do was listen to the call and fly to the offering. A free drink. God is like that. To receive from Him knowingly you have to discover where the offering is. To partake you listen, believe it’s free to receive and let your thirst take you to the bowl of living water offered.
This principle is found in all creation, be it feeding on the good which gives life or evil which brings death. When an enthusiast discovers something that they find pleasure in they will lead willing partakers to indulge. Note: Not all leaders lead to life!
I look forward to the day when Jesus wipes the curse of evil from this world. All creatures will live as originally created. In peace, and the absence of fear and no territorial demands. This Tui reflects the glory of our manufacturer. His wonders I am now unashamed to honor in all of my artistic endeavors.
It’s Place
Please tell this story in London or Paris and Beijing or Sydney, to Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, Bashar Al-Assad, Kim Jong-un, Angela Merkel, The Pope, David Beckham maybe even your spiteful neighbor might enjoy its simple story. No matter what political, religious or philosophical opinions in our cultures that make our hearts sing, we all get to play our songs on a planet under the watchful eye of our producer in heaven. If we are too busy to enjoy these simple delights before our eyes and share them, even with our enemies, then we are too busy and maybe fear is stopping us to live heaven on earth. Ask Jesus. He knows full well how fear drove us to kill him and then lie to cover our secrets fears.
This Tui has no idea how twisted mankind’s thinking is but it will fly for protection because it has an inner knowledge, it can’t trust most of us to look after it so it too can enjoy the food God gave us so free to enjoy. We have to earn its trust in the way we live by exercising an attractive nature out of goodwill and mercy. Something God can give you if you dare.
