THE STORY

A smart person listens well, a smarter person acts on good advice, and the smarter person asks heaven before they act.

Jesus set the example and believe it or not his passion was not to start another religion. His passion was to reconcile a love relationship, with heaven and in all its wonders. He embedded an exhortation to listen carefully, guard your heart and choose wisely to avoid the consequences of poor choices.

I didn’t take any of that advice or believe Him. I suffered from my own ignorant arrogance and listened to the wrong voice.

The vision in this illustration

In the reflective, inquiring peace of this young woman’s smile is a pleasure knowing something. She acknowledges there is more to know and is at peace in that revelation.

Back to my story of true and false wisdom

My youth was spent rejecting the conventional wisdom of a materialistic generation. I went on a journey looking for a better wisdom, freedom from fear and a search for God.

That inquisitive, brash and fearful man wondered why he felt so abnormal.

Suicidal (my brother committed suicide), I had no moral compass guide who I would listen to and I suffered the consequences of a lifestyle driven by bitterness, a pride of heart and a lust for the elusive love bite.

I listened to the wrong voices and the only peace I found was on a drug-induced high, blind drunk or in the sexually elated afterglow. That time of peace was momentary forgetfulness with the intoxicating effects of chemical stimulants. There was a downside.

Wrong choices led to depression and a heart cry for help

Fortunately, my journey didn’t end up in the grave. I lived to see the light of a new beginning and out of the drama of shame and failure came the realization I could draw and paint and make a living before I died. What a breath of fresh air.
