LILY FROM THE VALLEY 3 – Consider the Lilies.

THE STORY

Driven by an inquisitive spirit, I painted a series of Yellow Cala Lily oil works inspired by my photographs. The elegant lines and sculptural form of the lily invited a photo-realist approach, pushing my sense of adventure and challenging my perfectionism with detail.

A cathartic turning point in 2014 marked the return to these works from obscurity. After two decades of artistic silence, many earlier pieces were lost, stolen or given away.

Rediscovering this series reminded me of the deep pleasure found in creation.

The beauty of the Cala Lily inspires me. It’s waxy, sensual lustre of the petal, its flowing form, rich colour, and the intelligence of its botanical design. Capturing that sensual clarity in oil demanded patience and restraint.

Hence the subtitle, From the hand of a master craftsman. Creation itself bears His signature. Digital photography has its rightful place; This painting affirms my conviction that oil paint holds greater depth, colour, and character.

Why Consider the Lillies?

Why consider the lilies? They do not toil or worry about their growth or beauty. They simply flourish, displaying their glory as designed by a master craftsman.

The quiet elegance of this artwork belongs in any great city. Think, London, New York, Paris, Dubai, Tokyo, Sydney, Taiwan, Beijing, Moscow, anywhere beauty is valued.

My exhortation is simple — don’t become so busy building your empire that you forget to notice the beauty God has placed before you.
